These easy oven-baked Italian meatballs are incredibly tender and juicy with irresistible flavors that will have you craving for more! These are exactly the meatballs you want piled onto spaghetti, tucked into a crusty sub roll, or, as the Italians do, eaten all on their own.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 diced white onion
  • 2 cloves crushed garlic
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 tbsp dried italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
  • 1 jar tomato sauce

Method

  • 1)

Cover a baking sheet with foil and spray lightly with cooking spray.

  • 2)

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir onions in hot oil until translucent, about 20 minutes. Add garlic and saute for 30 seconds.

  • 3)

Place bread crumbs in a large bowl. Add milk and stir with a fork until combined. Let sit until all of the milk is absorbed into the breadcrumbs, 5 to 10 minutes.

  • 4)

Mix beef and pork together in a large bowl. Stir onions, bread crumb mixture, eggs, parsley, garlic, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, Italian herb seasoning, and Parmesan cheese into meat mixture with a rubber spatula until combined. Cover and refrigerate for about one hour.

  • 5)

Preheat an oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

  • 6)

Using wet hands, form meat mixture into balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Arrange onto prepared baking sheet.

  • 7)

Bake in the preheated oven until browned and cooked through, 22 to 25 minutes.

  • 8)

Once cooked, you can add the meatballs to your favorite prepared tomato sauce.

Notes

  • Step3 is optional, feel free to skip if you do not want to bother with the onions.  In that case you don’t need olive oil and butter.  ( ingredient 3 & 4)
  • You can use the following meat mixture:  (1lb of pork & 1lb of beef,  1lb of pork & 1lb of turkey, 1lb of beef & 1 lb of veal)
